Rare opening of a derelict Georgian house (Museum of Immigration, 19 Princelet Street, E1 6QH – Sunday 21 June – 12:00 noon – 5:00pm

A fairly rare chance to go inside a crumbling Georgian era house, which was later converted into a Jewish Synagogue. About half of the building is still off-limits as it is too fragile to let anyone stomp around – including sadly the 3rd-floor bedroom, which was untouched for 10 years and is a time capsule of a lonely recluse. The building – being owned by a trust seeking to convert it into a museum of immigration – has quite a few displays dotted around the place showing off the various aspects of immigration in the UK. There is no need to book, however openings, thanks to their rarity have been very popular, so please be prepared to queue. Entry is free, donations appreciated.

Something Different

Every fortnightly issue of Amateur Photographer magazine contains a competition where they print a thumbnail photo of the front cover of a previous old issue, and readers must guess (via Facebook) the issue year and date. The winner (via the first correct out of the hat) wins a free full years electronic issue of the magazine. So if you would like to enter the thumbnail pic competition for this Saturday 20 June’s issue the answer is that the magazine was issued on SATURDAY 18 OCTOBER 2008. Good luck and thanks to Bob Coggon who has collected the magazine over the years.

And don’t forget it’s Fathers Day on Sunday.
