Camera Club Outing to Windsor and Savill Gardens – Saturday 18 June

The pick up point is in St Marks Road, which is a turning on the left on Masons Hill. This is on the same side as Bromley South station past the Police HQ towards Waitrose on Masons Hill. Open Gardens Weekend – Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 June

Feed your curiosity with over 200 gardens to explore in this magical two-day event. Gardens range from the historic and traditional to the new and experimental and can be discovered across 25 London boroughsTickets cost just £12 and children under 12 go free. One ticket allows you to choose from numerous gardens on both Saturday and Sunday. Details of all participating gardens are available to explore on line (www.opensquares.org/gardens). This might appeal if you are participating in the Summer Project.

 

Tate Modern New Wing

The new Tate Modern Wing is open from tomorrow, 17 June, giving 60% more gallery space. There will be a 3-day celebration showcasing the very best of Tate. There will be music performances, film screenings, tours, and events, free and open to all.

 

Sidcup’s Great War: A Living Pageant – Saturday, 18 June – 10:00am – 4:00pm

Lamorbey & Sidcup Local History Society has organised a living history event in Sidcup High Street called Sidcup’s Great War Pageant and its purpose is to commemorate life on the Home Front in Sidcup during WW1. There will be street theatre, poetry readings, stalls representing local groups, songs from local schools and choirs, live music, history talks and displays. They have just been awarded £10,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund for a year-long project, of which the Pageant is a part. Free.

 

St John’s Wood Motor Pageant, High Street – Sunday 19 June – 10:00am to 5:00pm

British car-racing legend Sir Stirling Moss is the celebrity guest and, as part of the line-up of cars, his Ferrari 250 GT SWB Comp ’61, 3.0 Litre V12 Chassis 2735, the car in which he raced in and won most often, will be an exciting feature. Additionally, there will be a selection of pre and post war classics as well as the latest Ferraris, Maseratis, Rolls Royces, Bentleys and Aston Martins. There will also be a funfair for children, the boutiques will be open to browse through and there will be a variety of restaurants open to stop for a bite to eat. Free.

 

The Hive at Kew Gardens

Wolfgang Buttress’ 17 metre high, 40 tonne installation already wowed audiences in Milan and now it’s setting up home in Kew Gardens for the summer. Visitors can stand, lie or sit within the massive lattice structure as thousands of LED lights flicker and an orchestral arrangement plays, triggered by the activity of bees in a nearby hive. The music has been specially composed to mimic a bee’s singing voice, namely in the key of C.

Enjoy stunning views across London with a floral twist this summer. As Western Europe’s tallest building, The Shard rises high above the capital and offers 360-degree views of London from its 72nd floor Skydeck. To mark The Year of The English Garden, The View from the Shard has teamed up with Grow Wild to create London’s tallest garden: nestle among the colourful British plants and sip on a garden-inspired cocktail from the Skydeck pop-up bar, while taking in the panoramic views.

 

KCPA Annual General Meeting

will be held at 14.00 on Saturday 25 June at Detling Village Hall, Maidstone.

 

Annual Exhibition

The Visitors choice for their favourite photo resulted in a tie between Jeff King’s “The Eyes Have It” and Vera’s “Conversation”. Congratulations to you both.
