What’s on at the Club tonight
We will be having a tabletop photo evening on the theme of flowers but please bring anything with you that you would like to photograph and don’t forget to bring your cameras, tripods, etc. It is also hand in for Round 3 of the Colour Print competition.

16 February meeting. Cathy Roberts will be presenting her “Ways of Seeing”. Cathy is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and a Member of its Licentiate Distinctions Panel, and has had her work accepted in a variety of national and international exhibitions. It is also hand in for Round 3 of the Mono Print competition.

Orchid Festival – Saturday 4 February until 4 March
Kew Gardens’ celebration of the orchid opens today for its 22nd year, this time with an Indian theme. Sounds of India will surround the visual displays in the glasshouse, which will feature elaborate floral creations inspired by Indian markets. The festival includes behind the scenes tours, hands-on workshops and ‘Orchid Lates’ – so you can continue the fun after hours.
Visit My Mosque Day – Sunday 5 February – All Day Event – Free
This is a community-based initiative, which sees mosques up and down the country open their doors to the general public, all on the same day.
This gives an opportunity for anyone wishing to visit a mosque to go and see the daily goings on inside the place of worship. Visit My Mosque day aims to help clear any misconceptions people may have about Islam and sharing tea and refreshments with local neighbours and the community.

Wildlife Photographer of the Year at Natural History Museum – on now and until 10 September
Enjoy the world’s best nature photography exhibited on sleek backlit panels. This year’s competition was the most competitive to date, attracting almost 50,000 entries from professionals and amateurs across 95 countries. The exhibition features the collection of 100 exceptional images that reveal the astonishing diversity of life on our planet, from urban foxes to mountain hares.
Admittance to the exhibition may be restricted at busy times. It is advisable to book your tickets in advance.
Wolfgang Tillmans’ Exhibition at Tate Modern – Opens 15 February
From intimate still-lifes and portraits, to images that address vital political issues, explore the photographs of this groundbreaking artist together with video, digital slide projections, publications, curatorial projects and recorded music – all staged by the artist in characteristically innovative style.
The year 2003 is the exhibition’s point of departure, representing for Tillmans the moment the world changed, with the invasion of Iraq and anti-war demonstrations. The social and political form a rich vein throughout the artist’s work. German-born, international in outlook and exhibited around the world, Tillmans spent many years in the UK and is currently based in Berlin. In 2000, he was the first photographer and first non-British artist to receive the Turner Prize.
Bromley Mayor’s Charity Quiz Evening – Friday 17 February in The Great Hall, Bromley Civic Centre. 7:00pm for 7:30pm start.
Tickets are £15 per person and dinner is included (usually jacket potatoes, sausage, cheese, beans, etc.). There is also a bar available and a raffle. If you would like to take part in the quiz and be part of a team (maximum 6) please let Betty know asap.
Next Camera Club Outing – Saturday 18 February
Will be a London Walk and is ‘The Hipster Tour, Part 2’. We will explore the 18th Century architecture of the City’s northeastern fringe together with its 21st Century flowering as a hub of technology and the arts. Meet 11:00am at the main entrance to Old Street Underground Station on Silicon Roundabout.
Audio-Visual Competition – Saturday 18 February – 1:30pm for a 2:00pm start. At The Ruskin Hall, Carshalton Methodist Church, Ruskin Road, Carshalton SM5 3DE. Hosted by Carshalton Camera Club and judged by Carole Speight ARPS DPAGB APAGB. Admission £5 to include refreshments. Advance purchase of tickets preferred. Behind the scenes in the Chapel – Sunday 19 February at 13:15 and 14:30 (tours last 45 mins each). Meet at entrance to the Chapel 5 minutes before each session.
The Chapel of St Peter and St Paul, Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich is a neo-classical masterpiece by James ‘Athenian’ Stuart and William Newton. Featuring a Samuel Green organ and an altarpiece painted by Benjamin West, it is one of the finest eighteenth century interiors in Europe. Join them for a free behind-the-scenes tour led by one of their expert guides including areas not usually accessible to the public. Head up to the galleries and go behind locked doors. Learn more about the craftsmen who created this exquisite interior and the people who have worshipped here through the centuries. There will also be a rare opportunity to view the original eighteenth century moulds used to create some of the Chapel’s unique decorative features.
