St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations – Friday 16 to Sunday 18 March

Rowdy sing-along’s, fast-paced dancing, a parade and a pint or five – the Irish have always known how to party and celebrating St Patrick’s Day in London is no exception. The official holiday lands annually on 17 March (but this year the main London celebrations take place in Trafalgar Square March 16-18).

The Parade on Sunday 18 March lines the streets from Piccadilly to Trafalgar Square and cheers on a stream of leprechaun floats, traditional musicians and squads of Irish dancers. The main stage at Trafalgar Square will be surrounded by a street food market and a ‘tea tent’, with a line-up of Irish bands. Basically, it’s a big, rip-roaring one-day festival, only the pints are a shade of Gaelic green.

 

HMS Belfast Turns 80 – Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 March

Head to HMS Belfast and help celebrate her 80th birthday on the weekend of 17 – 18 March with special events aboard the magnificent warship anchored next to Tower Bridge. On 17 March, you can meet veterans from across HMS Belfast’s 80-year history and learn about what it was like to live and work at sea. A number of free events on board include the return of Signals at Sea, where families can learn how lights, radios, codes and flags were used to pass messages from ship to ship. You can also learn how to send your own name in Morse Code, as well as a new signal created specifically for the occasion. Enjoy a slice of birthday cake created by Sophie Faldo, the 2017 winner of The Great British Bake Off, grab a souvenir photo in the Birthday Photobooth and try out some temporary tattoos to complete your Naval look. For visitors over 18, you can also enjoy a complimentary rum punch, inspired by the ‘tots, sippers and gulpers’ that were part of life in the Royal Navy all those years ago.

 

Photography Show – 17 to 20 March at the NEC Birmingham

The Photography Show with four days full of everything a passionate photography enthusiast or a seasoned pro could possibly want. You’ll get the chance to try and buy the latest products from leading brands, take part in a variety of seminars, demos and learn from photography pros at the many free stages, with sessions for all levels.

The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race. Saturday 24 March

The women’s race gets under way at 4.31pm and the men’s race follows the same route just over an hour later at 5.32pm. 

 

The Oxford and Cambridge Goat Race. Saturday 24 March 12 noon -6:00pm. 2 goats, 1 glorious race.
Coinciding with the Oxford & Cambridge Boat Race, two goats (one representing Oxford and one representing Cambridge) go head to head – just a stone’s throw from the Thames, at Spitalfields City Farm, Buxton St, E1 5AR. All proceeds go straight to the farm, so get your tickets today.

 

KCPA Print and PDI Exhibition 2018

Selection Weekend at Deitling Village Hall. Pilgrims Way, Maidstone ME14 3EY on 24 and 25 March.

Selection takes place on Saturday from 2:30pm for PDIs and on Sunday from 10:00am for Prints. Free entry.

  • Watch a spectacular free performance of The Passion of Jesus, featuring 100 performers, in Trafalgar Square on Good Friday 30 March

  • The National Trust is teaming up with Cadbury once again to offer egg hunts in many of its beautiful London properties over the Easter weekend. You can use the Cadbury website to find one near you, but they recommend Sutton House for its curious caravan, Fenton House for its pretty walled garden and Red House for its wombat trail. 

 

CAPTURE TO PRINT – Sunday 8 April 2018

The event is being held at Madginford Hall, Egremount Road, Bearsted, Maidstone ME15 8LH, approx. 4 miles from Maidstone East railway station. Madginford Hall has its own free car park, but please be aware that parking space on site is limited. Doors open at 10:00am to allow time to check in. The first presentation starts at 10:30am.The programme finishes at around 3:30pm

Margaret Salisbury FRPS MFIAP and John Herlinger from Fotospeed will be sharing their secrets at the Capture To Print event organised by the South East DIG Centre. Margaret Salisbury FRPS MFIAP will talk about choosing the right paper for an image and then show several of her award winning prints, with a particular focus on people. John Herlinger (founder of Fotospeed and The Fine Art Print Room) will then talk about the dark art of colour management and how to get the best from your printer. The duo will reveal many of the techniques they use and their trade secrets about printing, mounting and framing.
