What’s on at the Club tomorrow

Tomorrow is the Summer Project Briefing. Come along and join a group to take photos on a particular theme during the summer break. The topic will be revealed during the evening.

Next week (17 May) is our Awards Evening in the Great Hall at Bromley Central Library starting at 7:30pm. This will be followed by snacks and drinks.

Next Camera Club Outing – Saturday 9 June

We plan to visit Hutchinson’s Bank, New Addington. The reserve is an area of secluded chalk grassland and woodland, supporting many rare plants and insects, and the emphasis will be on close-up and macro photography. Details of timing and rendezvous point will follow.

Proposed Camera Club Outing – Salute the 40s Festival at Chatham Docks – 15 or 16 September

Camera Club outing to shoot these impressive wartime vintage displays. Widely held as the best vintage festival in the country Chatham Docks Salute the 40s festival provides photographic opportunities to shoot street parties, re-enactments, street photography, portraiture, candid moments, wartime equipment, dances, parades, automotive, militaria, urban landscape – every photographic opportunity imaginable! Salute to the 40s – Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust thedockyard.co.uk Take part in our 1940’s family vintage festival at The Historic Dockyard Chatham, and be transport back in time, for a weekend of vintage delight..

Taking place on 15 and 16 September there is a sign up sheet at the club on the notice board or you can email Jeff/Matt to reserve a place or find out more – please also indicate which day would be better the Saturday or Sunday or no preference. Deposit will be £1 and final balance due on the day of £14.50 (£13.50 concessions). 

Annual Exhibition

If you have unwanted bottles of booze or other gifts please donate them as raffle prizes for the Awards Evening on Thursday 17 May.

Shape of Light now on at Tate Modern

Shape of Light is the first major exhibition to explore the relationship between photography and abstract art. Spanning the century from the 1910s to the present day, it brings to life the innovation of photographers over this period, and shows how they responded and contributed to the development of abstraction. 
Key photographs are brought together from pioneers including Man Ray and Alfred Stieglitz, as well as major contemporary artists such as Barbara Kasten and Thomas Ruff.

Alchemy Festival – South Bank – Friday 4 to Monday 7 May – 12 noon onwards

The largest UK festival of South Asian culture is back for its ninth year. See dance, music, theatre, visual art and comedy from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and the UK. Dance to up-and-coming Asian DJs, listen to leading feminist South Asian authors explore age-old questions in a modern-day context, join a Bollywood dance workshop and feast on Pakistani, Afghani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Nepalese and Indian street food. Opening of Temperate House at Kew Gardens – Saturday 5 May

Pay a visit to the world’s largest Victorian glasshouse as the Temperate House reopens at Kew Gardens after a five-year restoration project. Twice as big as Kew’s Palm House, the impressive structure features glossy staircases, spectacular water installations and some of the world’s most rare and threatened plants.

Westminster Morris Men, Day of Dance – Saturday 5 May 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm

On Saturday 5 May, Westminster Morris Men and Morris Dance teams from across England will join the annual Day of Dance. This free event will see teams of Morris Men dancing in Westminster’s streets and Trafalgar Square all afternoon.

IWA Canalway Cavalcade – Little Venice – Saturday 5, Sunday 6 and Monday 7 May
London’s biggest, brightest and best waterways festival. This unique waterway boat gathering is organised by IWA volunteers, and has been taking place at Little Venice since 1983. There will be activities for all the family with a boaters’ gathering, a pageant of boats, trade shows and stalls, live music, kids’ activities, competitions, Morris Dancers, a real ale bar, a wide variety of snacks and food. Admission is Free.

KCPA Print and PDI Exhibition – now on and until Sunday 6 May

Something Different- Filming and Photography of Inline skating race at Gravesend – Sunday 20 May

Stephen Ingall <stepheningall47@gmail.com> 07890 386 984 is part of a group organising a 6 hour skating race at Gravesend Cyclopark.
If you would be interested in doing some filming or photography please let him know (particularly filming). They would like to produce a video that would get across the excitement and fun of this event. They are also trying to arrange photography for the event. The event is organised by members of speed skating clubs and not on a commercial basis so this unpaid.

We now have some more details. There will be a cremation at Beckenham Crematorium at 12:30pm on Wednesday 9 May then afterwards a ceremony for him at Orpington Methodist Church at 14:15pm.
