Occasional open weekend to go on board the barges moored next to Tower Bridge. The motor Tug Touchstone will be arriving from Chatham and open to visitors, a pop-up cafe in the pier house and of course the resident live-aboard boats to view close up, mainly Dutch and English river barges, and all in navigable condition with either working engines or sailing rigs, or both. Come and find out from those who live here what it is like to live on board a barge on the river. The Tug Touchstone was built in 1962 on the Thames in Charlton and worked the Thames and the Medway until 1994. A great piece of Thames river history, in full working order.

Anish Kapoor Review – starts today and on until August at Pitzhanger Manor and Gallery, Walpole Park, Mattock Lane, Ealing, W5 5EQ – Tuesday-Friday 1-5pm; Sat 11am-5pm

Stay away from Ealing if you’ve got body image issues, because Anish Kapoor has made it bloody impossible to escape your reflection. In the newly refurbed Pitzhanger Manor, architect Sir John Soane’s one-time country pad, Kapoor has built a world of polished metal; a hall of mirrors that twists, turns, distends and flips the viewer. Not a good place to go if you haven’t had your beauty sleep.

The two bright gallery spaces are filled with mirror works; globes, discs, cubes and squares polished to glistening perfection. You, the viewer, are in every single one.

Three along one wall are in gradients of red and green. Your reflection is inverted until you get close enough that it snaps back the right way around. The curves of each disc echo back your words and breathing. It’s totally disorientating, and so overwhelming it almost leaves you with motion sickness.

And if you don’t mind getting covered in coloured powder a reminder that HOLI will be celebrated this weekend.
