This cup is a one-class PDI competition and you can enter up to 4 images. See below for guidelines on entries.
“Nature photography depicts living, untamed animals and uncultivated plants in a natural habitat, geology and the wide diversity of natural phenomena, from insects to icebergs. The photographer, whatever photographic medium is used, must have taken the original image. Photographs of animals, which are domesticated, caged or under any form of restraint, as well as photographs of cultivated plants are ineligible. Minimal evidence of humans is acceptable for nature subjects, such as barn owls or storks adapting to an environment modified by humans, or natural forces, like hurricanes or tidal waves, reclaiming it. No techniques that add, relocate, replace, or remove pictorial elements except by cropping are permitted. Techniques that enhance the presentation of the photograph without changing the nature story or the pictorial content, or without altering the content of the original scene, are permitted including HDR, focus stacking and dodging/burning. Techniques that remove elements added by the camera, such as dust spots, digital noise, and film scratches, are allowed. Stitched images are not permitted. All allowed adjustments must appear natural. Colour images can be converted to greyscale monochrome.”

What’s on this coming weekend and soon as Christmas seems to have arrived!
Christmas at Kew Gardens on now and until Sunday 5 January
Kew’s incredible botanical gardens will be undergoing another magnificent seasonal makeover in 2019, as Christmas at Kew lights up the space’s iconic buildings and the weird and wonderful plants that call it home.
This year, the mile-long, twinkling trail holds some new surprises. There will be a shower of silvery vines at the Treetop Walkway while down below you’ll be able to spy folkloric illuminations of mythical fairy creatures and Will-o’the Wisps. And if that wasn’t enough, there will also be new glittering spiral tree installations and laser projections illuminating the iconic Temperate House.
Listen to the singing holly bushes, walk through the Tunnel of Light and its thousands of pea-lights, warm yourself by the fire garden and gawp at the jets of light dancing above the Palm House Pond.
Winterfest at Wembley Park – on now and until Friday 3 January
A family-friendly light festival with several installations. Walk through the Sonic Runway, a light tunnel from Nevada’s Burning Man festival, or gaze up at the largest LED tree ever seen in London. Wembley Park, free, just turn up.
Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park – Thursday 21 November to Sunday 5 January
It’s the first weekend of huge free Christmas festival Winter Wonderland. Funfair rides, theatre shows, an ice rink, an ice kingdom, Santa Land, a grotto, food and drink stalls, Christmas markets, a big wheel and much more are part of the fun this year. It’s free entry, but can get a bit spendy once you’re inside — you’ve been warned. Just turn up (but book ahead for some attractions).
Enchanted Woodland at Syon Park – £10-£12, book ahead, Friday 22 to Sunday 24 November (and next weekend too)
If you go down to the woods today… you’ll be met with dozens of colourful lights. Syon Park’s Enchanted Woodland — one of London’s original light festivals — is a family-friendly trail through west London woodland, with floodlights, strobes and lasers lighting the way.
Palace History – Fulham Palace – Sunday 24 November 12:30pm-1:30pm £6, book ahead,
Get to know Fulham Palace better on a guided tour of the house and gardens, home to the Bishops of London for over 1300 years. Find out about the people who have lived here, and how different generations of residents influenced different architectural styles in the building.

Forthcoming Camera Club Outings
Highgate Cemetery Tour – Sunday 12 January 2020 – £12 per person (friends/relatives welcome too)
Meet at the entrance to the East Cemetery at 11:00am to explore this section. We can then go for lunch together in one of the nearby pubs before returning to the West Cemetery for a private tour at 2:30pm. No tripods unfortunately.
Please email Charlotte if you’d like to come and we will collect payment at a later date.
York/Whitby – Sunday 5th to Tuesday 7 April 2020
Sunday 5 April: travel up to York in the morning, walking tour around the city in the afternoon and time for sunset/evening photography
Monday 6 April: private minibus trip to Whitby via the York Moors, Goathland etc. – full itinerary to be confirmed (maximum 16 people so first come, first served)
Tuesday 7 April: more time in York before travelling back to London in the afternoon/evening
When I first put this in the Newsletter the cost was £106 for two nights’ accommodation at the Travelodge Central Layerthorpe (per room) plus around £50 for the day trip (depending on final numbers).
Charlotte will organise the above but you’ll need to book your own train tickets – these go on sale 12 weeks in advance so please put 12January in your diaries to get the best price! We’ll send out a reminder nearer the time too.
As Charlotte will have to pay in full for the Travelodge accommodation to get the saver rates, it’d be great if you could email her to let her know that you’re coming and she will contact you to give her bank details. The cost is £106 (this forms your non-refundable deposit). If you’d like to share a room, please her know who you’re sharing with and transfer £53 each. Partners/relatives/friends are welcome on this trip.
