What’s on at the Club tonight

Tonight is a Members evening where David Pollard will talk about RPS and hopefully encourage us all to consider applying for a distinction, Charles Hambleton will be showing his macro work and Steve Jones will do a slot about Lightroom. It is also hand in for Round 2 of the Colour Print Competition.

Things to do this Weekend 

 

Day of the Dead – Friday 31 October, Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 November – 11:00 am – 6:00 pm

Celebrate Mexico’s favourite festival, Day of the Dead, on at the South Bank, with art installations, family workshops and a Mexican market.

Regent Street Motor Show – Saturday, 1st Nov 2014 10:30 am – 4:00 pm

A mile of displays which feature no fewer than 300 iconic cars from past, present and future eras. Timed to coincide with the annual running of the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, the Regent Street Motor Show – a Royal Automobile Club event – will again include a large number of the amazing pre-1905 cars in the coveted EFG Concours d’Elegance.

London to Brighton Veteran Car Run – Sunday 2 November

This grand array of veteran cars mentioned above will then be heading off early from Hyde Park as they make their way to Brighton.

Fields of Battle Exhibition – On now and until Tuesday 11 November 2014

An open-air exhibition which captures the eerie peace and beauty of First World War battlefields as they appear today is to open in St James’s Park to mark the war’s centenary. The Fields of Battle/Lands of Peace exhibition, sponsored by The Royal British Legion, features sixty powerful images of contemporary landscapes from Flanders to Gallipoli. The exhibition is free to all members of the public and will run until Armistice Day on 11 November.

Camera Club Outing – 9 November 2014.

Unfortunately this has been cancelled. Security has tightened a lot in recent years and, whilst it is possible to get close to the Cenotaph if you are early enough – several hours before the service – the views are limited by the soldiers, etc. that line the street. Until recently it was possible to go to Horse Guards Parade, where the “old soldiers” assemble before marching into Whitehall but it is now a ticket-only set-up. The other part of the outing was to view the poppies at the Tower but I went mid-week and it was very crowded and I’m assuming a Sunday would be more so, especially as it’s the start of half term.
