There are art galleries gardens, lakes and sculptures in Kensington Gardens, with plenty of cafes and toilets. I also hope we can get to see the Kyoto Garden in nearby Holland Park. King Harold Day – Saturday 8 October at The Abbey Gardens, Abbey View, Waltham Abbey, Essex, EN9 1XQ
King Harold Day is a medieval festival held in the town of Waltham Abbey to commemorate Harold, the last Saxon King of England. 2016 is a very special year in Waltham Abbey as it is the 950th anniversary of the Coronation of King Harold II, the three great battles of 1066 and King Harold’s death. They have a programme of special events to mark this, and King Harold Day will reflect the anniversary.
The day will include displays and ‘have a go sessions’ including: Archery, Craft Fayre, Medieval music, Hawks and Hunting Birds, Demonstrations of Saxon crafts, Living History and Arts Displays, Re-enactment and Fancy Dress – cost: £5
March Into 1066 – Saturday 8 October 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
On 25th September, a band of 1066 warriors left York to trek south by horse and foot. On 14 October they will arrive at the site of the Battle of Hastings, 950 years to the day that King Harold met William, Duke of Normandy’s invading force. However, on 8 October they will be encamped in Hyde Park.
Seems to be a sort of fair/exhibition of Saxon heritage, but the website is woefully lacking in details – cost: free.
On Sunday 9 October Eltham Palace is welcoming back the 1066 Warriors who have been trekking south by horse and foot from York on their way to the site of the Battle of Hastings.
