A quick catch up on what happened in November/December.
29 November SLF Group 2 – Monochrome Prints. Bromley came third with 66.5 points just half a point behind the joint winners on 67 points.
Congratulations to Betty whose “White Steps and Gate” was awarded a Certificate of Merit.
6 December was the Mike Gleave Nature Cup judged by Rosemary Wilman. Congratulations to Czech whose image “Cheetah Portrait” was chosen as the winner, with highly commended images by Steve Jones “Gulls Lunch” and Greg Gillies “Sunbittern”.
An Update on Myra Scott
I had a note from Laurie with an update on Myra. She had two nasty falls last year, resulting in an operation on her head and a long stay in hospital. She is very frail and some dementia has kicked in. She is housebound and has carers attending. Lots of changes housewise with dining room to bedroom and dismantling the computer set up. Laurie also asked me to thank Jeff, Steve and Betty for their cards and good wishes.
KCPA Audio-Visual Competition – Rescheduled to Saturday 26 January from 12.00 to 17.30 at Crowborough Community Centre, Pine Grove, Crowborough.
If you would like to attend, simply fill in the form hereand pay for your ticket(s) in advance in order to come along and view this year’s audio visual sequences entered, it only costs £5. Not only is it an opportunity to see some great AVs (and hopefully inspire you to produce some of your own) but it also gives you the chance to meet friends and colleagues from other clubs.
Close-up Photographer of the Year competition opens for entries
Photographing a trooping funnel mushroom or grizzled skipper butterfly could win you £1,000 cash and more than £1,200 worth of SIGMA camera equipment in the first ever Close-up Photographer of the Year competition (CUPOTY), which is now open for entries.
There are five categories to enter: Animals, Plants & fungi, Intimate landscape, Manmade and Micro (for images captured with a microscope), as well as Young CUPOTY (for entrants aged 17 and under). The competition is open to all, and entrants have until 23.59 (GMT) on 10 February 2019 to submit their pictures via the competition website www.cupoty.com.
CUPOTY is a celebration of close-up, macro and micro-photography, but its scope is far greater than that. The ultimate aim is to encourage photographers to slow down, enjoy their craft, and make connections with others who are passionate about the world up close. As such, the competition will be supported by a blog and newsletter covering everything from where to find perfect flower specimens to how to light macro subjects, and what to add to your kit bag. There will also be regular meet-ups and workshops.
CUPOTY co-founder, and former editor of Outdoor Photography magazine, Tracy Calder says, “close-up photography allows us to explore intimate details, encouraging us to see the world anew. When we stop to notice the curved bands of a snail shell or jagged thorns of a rose stem we create a lasting connection with your environment.” This year’s judges include award-winning photographers Ross Hoddinott, Sue Bishop, David Maitland, Robert Thompson and Keith Wilson. Judging will take place in February 2019, with the results announced soon after.
