Members’ Evening – Thursday 1 November

The theme for the members’ presentation meeting will be ‘Music’, which can be interpreted very widely. Put together minimum 5 and maximum 20 PDIs on a memory stick and bring it along or Email to  pdisecretary@bromleycameraclub.org.uk at least 3 days before the event. This is a ‘show and tell’ so we would be interested in how, why, when, where the pictures were taken. The pictures do not need to be new – you can raid your back catalogue. Nor do photos need to be potential competition winners for their content or story to be interesting. They may be discussed but not judged or marked. The time available on the evening will be equally divided between those participating.

Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize – National Portrait Gallery – opens 18 October

Showcasing talented young photographers, gifted amateurs and established professionals, the competition, showcases a diverse range of images and tells the often fascinating stories behind the creation of the works, from formal commissioned portraits to more spontaneous and intimate moments capturing friends and family.

Photography – A Living Art: Then and Now – National Portrait Gallery  Room 29, Floor 1– opens 20 October
This display celebrates recently acquired portraits by contemporary artists whose work joins the recent revival of early photographic processes. Through the use of pinhole cameras, photograms and tintypes, unique pieces are favoured over mass production, highlighting the moment of creation. Shown alongside historical examples, aesthetic, technical and conceptual connections between the art of the past and the present are revealed. Distilling portraiture and photography to their basic qualities of shape and the processing of light, these works both challenge and create a dialogue with conventional approaches to portraiture.

Polina Plotnikov  Presentation at WEX headquartersSunday 21 October.

It is an unusual presentation for her as she hasn’t presented her non-studio work before anywhere and apart from occasional posting on Facebook and Instagram doesn’t usually share her outdoor photography.  It will be based on her photography with Lensbaby lenses and optics and will feature a wide range of photo subjects – travel, landscape, portraiture, nature etc. It is a ticketed event (by WEX, she is doing it for free as Lensbaby ambassador) and places are limited.  https://events.wexphotovideo.com/capturing-the-mood-seminar-with-polina-plotnikova-and-lensbaby-london-21-october-2018
