Painting the Modern Garden – Monet to Matisse at Royal Academy of Arts, Mayfair from 30 January to 30 April

Claude Monet loved his garden at Giverny in France. An avid horticulturalist, Monet’s garden was a constant source of inspiration and subject of his work from 1883 until his death in 1926. Not only did he transform the original garden with reconfigured beds of vibrantly coloured floral varieties that mimicked a painter’s palette he also landscaped one of the most amazing water lily gardens with the now famous Japanese footbridge. Blooming with over 120 works by Monet and his contemporaries including Pierre Bonnard, Wassily Kandinsky, Henri Le Sidaner, Camille Pissarro and Paul Cézanne, it will bring together decorative panels by Edouard Vuillard not exhibited since the 1920s and reunite in Europe for the first time Monet’s ‘Agapanthus Triptych’.
