What’s happening at the Club this evening, next week and soon

Tonight we will be showing some lantern slides from the Club archives.  It is also hand in for Round 3 of the Colour Print Competition, which will be judged next week by Glyn Bareham, LRPS.

And if you are interested in taking part in the Quiz Evening at Bromley Civic Centre on 24 January please speak to either Betty or me this evening.

 

Things to do this weekend 

London Ice Sculpting Festival – Friday 10, Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 January – Free

The London Ice Sculpting Festival will feature entertainment over three days, with the main action taking place in Wood Wharf and new attractions throughout Canary Wharf. There will be the ever popular ice carving Masterclasses, the fun, snow-filled snow pit, an interactive ice graffiti wall, ice chess, Winter Market and loads of highlights including a special Northern Lights Laser Show.  Dave and I went last year and although cold it was really good.

 

And for something completely different the No Trousers Tube Ride on Sunday 12 January at 3:00 pm meeting at Pagoda, Newport Place, WC2H 2JR

The No Pants Subway Ride is an annual global event started by Improv Everywhere in New York in 2002. For a history, see: http://improveverywhere.com/missions/the-no-pants-subway-ride/

Last year, over 150 Londoners both male and female took part. The 5th annual No Trousers Tube Ride in London will take place on Sunday 12th January 2014. This event will also take place in other cities around the world on the same day. Full details can be found on http://improveverywhere.com/2014/01/06/global-no-pants-subway-ride-2014/. To participate you must be (1) willing to take trousers off on the Tube and (2) able to keep a straight face about it.  THIS IS A PARTICIPATORY EVENT. DO NOT SHOW UP UNLESS YOU PLAN TO TAKE YOUR TROUSERS OFF.

 

Exhibitions to Visit

 

Members of the RPS Visual Art Group‘s print exhibition can now be seen at the Fairfield Halls, Croydon. It will be there until 26th January.

 

The Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2013 at National Portrait Gallery (preview on their website) on now until 9 February.

 

Booking is now available for the Arena Seminar – 14 to 16 March 2014 at the Riviera Hotel, Burnaby Road, Alum Chine, Bournemouth

 

 

The Seminar has become established as a wonderful weekend of photography and inspiration.  This is coupled with good company, good food, great fun and also a chance for visitors to show their work or work-in-progress in small groups in our popular informal ‘Print Walk’ session.  There is also an opportunity to win a print from an Arena member with our free print raffle.  Some of these prints sell for hundreds of pounds and a free ticket is included with every booking.
