It is not too late to sign up to join the meetings each week you just need to download an app called Zoom Meetings. If you accept this you will be patched in to all those others who have joined the meeting. You do not have to have your face on the screen, or have your voice heard you can just listen to what is said by the judge. If you would like more info about Zoom please do not hesitate to speak to Brian (pdisecretary@bromleycameraclub.org.uk) and he will be more than willing to talk you through the process. Frieze Sculpture 2020 – Regents Park – Monday 5 to Sunday 18 October
Ordinarily, Frieze Sculpture takes place in the summer, allowing you to enjoy the work of world-renowned artists while topping up your tan and demolishing an ice cream. But this year’s instalment has been pushed back slightly to October to coincide with the start of the capital’s Frieze Week.
The sculpture trail will take the same format as other years, with featured works selected by the director of programme at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Clare Lilley.
If you’re still not quite ready for a journey into central London, you’ll be able to enjoy this year’s spectacle on the Frieze Viewing Room platform, which will allow UK and worldwide viewers to see and interact with the installations online. This method is also autumn-weather-proof. More info at www.frieze.com
Royal Academy Summer Exhibition – starts today and on until 3 January
Bit late for the Summer Exhibition, isn’t it? Yes, but calling the Royal Academy’s annual open-submission mega-show the ‘Autumn Exhibition’ just doesn’t have the same ring to it. So it’s the same thing we get every summer – floor-to-ceiling art by greats and unknowns alike, plus all those little stickers on the walls – only a few months later thanks to the year that is 2020.
Face to Face at the King’s Cross Tunnel – Wednesday 7 October to Sunday 1 November
A free, public exhibition of social documentary and portrait photography, curated by Ekow Eshun, in partnership with the Fund for Global Human Rights.
The tunnel’s entrance is in the north-east corner of the One Pancras Square building, accessed via an escalator hall designed by David Chipperfield Architects. The tunnel follows a consistent curve leading into St Pancras International and King’s Cross St Pancras Underground stations.
The Outside Art Project, King’s Cross:
King’s Cross is now home to one of the largest free and permanent outdoor exhibition spaces for photography in London. ‘The Outside Art Project’ is an extension of ‘Face to Face’ with work from all the artists displayed across the King’s Cross site – installed in double-sided frames attached to 2-metre wide concrete benches. Face to Face begins with Mahtab Hussain’s work opposite King’s Cross Station in King’s Boulevard, follows through Pancras Square and finishes with Medina Dugger’s series ‘Enshroud’ at the top of King’s Boulevard, facing Central St Martin’s.
Not to be confused with the manicured Walthamstow Wetlands, this outdoor art exhibition is taking place in the reedbeds of the London Wetlands Centre in Barnes. The one with the otters. To mark its twentieth anniversary, the centre is carefully placing sculptures and sound installations among the watery habitat that you can view from a distance. Look out for Alec Stevens’s ‘That Sinking Feeling’, little houses that protrude from the lagoon, reminding us of rising water levels, while the ducks swim around them without a care in the world.
Whatever you do always check with the venue or event first before you visit to double-check what safety measures they have in place and if you have to pre-book in advance. Plus, always keep social distancing in mind.
