What’s on at the Club tonight and next week

Tonight is Round 3 of the PDI Competition when our judge will be Vince Winter.

Next week Frazer Ashford ABIPP, ARPS will be giving a talk entitled Celebrities and Landscapes and showing us some of his pdi’s.

Next week is also hand in for the Kerri Cup competition. This is a one-class competition for prints, which have been taken on a Club outing, which have not been shown on previous Steinberger or Kerri Cup competitions. You are allowed to enter 4 images, which must have been taken during the last 14 months. By way of reminder the eligible dates are 16 February 2014 (Science Museum/London Walk), 10 April (Riverhill Himalayan Garden), 7 June (Lewes), 7 September (Tall Ships at Canary Wharf), 8 December (Christmas Dinner), 21 February 2015 (London visit to Exhibitions). You may also enter photos taken for the Summer Project last year.

 

What’s on at the Weekend

Our Next Outing – Saturday 21 February

Will be to view “Drawn by Light” at the Science Museum followed by a walk if the weather allows. If you are interested please put your name on the list on the Noticeboard. We will be meeting at 11:00 am at the South Kensington underground exit on the corner by the Natural History Museum in Cromwell Road.

 

Chinese New Year starts today and on Sunday 22 February why not welcome the Chinese ‘Year of the Sheep’ in.

The event starts at 10:00 am with a parade from Duncannon Street to Shaftesbury Avenue. There’ll be floats, Chinese lion and dragon teams and more. There’ll also be free performances from noon with music, dance, acrobatics and martial arts. Trafalgar Square’s programme will kick off with the Chen Brothers Flying Lion Dance, plus a host of visiting artists from China. There will be fun activities across a wide area, including Charing Cross Road, Leicester Square and Chinatown, making the event one of the capital’s biggest annual outdoor celebrations.

 

Mayor’s Quiz – Friday 20 February

By way of reminder for those who are attending. The quiz will take place in the Great Hall, Bromley Civic Centre 7:00 pm for 7:30 start. We have two teams (11 people). Tickets have not been issued but on arrival either mention my name or Bromley Camera Club.

 

One-off Workshop 

On Saturday 28 February Steve Jones will lead a workshop to help less-experienced members plug gaps in their photographic knowledge or who need clarification on, for example, entering competitions. Topics will be driven by participants’ questions. This will be held at Steve’s house in Chislehurst at 10 am and will finish by 1 pm. Please tell Steve at a club meeting or email pdisecretary@bromleycameraclub.org.uk if you wish to attend. This is open to all members and there is no charge.

 

Weekend in Portsmouth 7 to 10 August 2015

The weekend is currently being planned and we need an early indication of interest. The University of Portsmouth are currently holding a number of rooms in Rees Hall, their Halls of Residence. There are a limited number of double rooms and more single rooms. All rooms are en-suite and the price includes breakfast. The cost for this is: £170.10 per double room/£121.50 per person in a single room. If you are interested, please put your name on the list on the Noticeboard. A £20 per person deposit will be required by 26 March.

 

Annual Exhibition

Just a reminder that hand in for the Annual Exhibition is on Thursday 12 March.  Members may enter up to nine images of any subject in each eligible class. Entry forms are attached to this Newsletter. Entries will be divided into the following Exhibition Classes.

EC 1: Advanced Monochrome Prints, EC 2: Intermediate Monochrome Prints, EC 3: Preliminary Monochrome Prints

EC 4: Advanced Colour Prints, EC 5: Intermediate Colour Prints EC 6: Preliminary Colour Prints,

EC 7: Advanced PDIs, EC 8: Intermediate PDIs, EC 9: Preliminary PDIs.

KCPA Exhibition Update – Message from Melanie Chalk

Things are changing! The KCPA Exhibition is going digital!

For the first time in 2015 we need you all to register on our Image Upload Software and enter your own images, both PDI and Prints for the KCPA Annual Print and PDI Exhibition 2015.

  • To Summarise
  • You need to Register to Upload. OPEN FOR ENTRIES FROM 16th FEBRUARY
  • You are responsible for your own individual entry and payment.
  • There are no forms to fill in or labels to download; all the paperwork is created from your entry on your computer.
  • It’s an easy to navigate system.
  • Easy payment with your PayPal account or with a Debit or Credit Card through PayPal.
  • Helpful instructions for Preparing Images.
  • Screenshots for guidance through the Upload stages.
  • Conditions and Definitions available on the Upload System for checking at every stage.
  • A chance to change images right up until the final entry day, March 15th.
  • Help and advice at the end of the telephone.
  • Your Club Coordinator will collect and deliver the actual Prints to Hand in Points at the Diamond Jubilee Event 21st March or Detling Hall on Sunday 29th March.

We need those who work “only in Film” and are wanting to enter Prints, to contact us, either by email to competitions@kcpa.co.uk or phone 07768265897 or 01634303540 so we can offer assistance with your entry, as an image has to be uploaded to finalise your entry, we can help with this requirement should no digital image be available.
